FAIS Leadership Team & Advisory Board

Tatyana Zhukov, Ph.D.
CEO, Florida Analytical Imaging Solutions
Dr. Zhukov has over 25 years experience in Experimental & Clinical Biochemistry and collaborative research on the nanotechnology approaches for early cancer detection. From 1993 while working at the
John K. Frost Center for Imaging of Cells and Molecular Markers of the Johns Hopkins University on the early detection of lung cancer, she gained valuable experience regarding searching and evaluation of lung cancer biomarkers, development of new approaches involving proteomics and molecular imaging, cell image analysis, and the creation of new platforms for cancer biomarkers validation.
For over 15 years Dr. Zhukov held a joint appointments in the Moffitt Cancer Center and in the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology in the College of Medicine at the University of South Florida. Dr. Zhukov had served as PI and Co-PI on several federal research grants, she is trained in clinical biochemistry and cytology, and has worked for the last 10 years to apply these skills in the development of molecular markers for human cancer.
From 2004, Dr. Zhukov as a member of initiative group created the Moffitt Research Experience Undergraduate Program affiliated with the Honors and Engineering Colleges at the University of South Florida. The program has successfully provided laboratory experience on cancer research for hundreds of undergraduate and graduate USF students. Numerous students acquired new experience and skills that allowed them to move forward and be enrolling into PhD programs. Dr. Zhukov has six issued United States patents. She is also responsible for manuscripts preparation and report to funding agency.
Personal Statement
"I am a board certified Cytopathology Scientist with additional specialty training in Cell Biology and early cancer detection methodologies. My research focus is on the development of novel molecular markers and testing for human cancer for integration into clinical practice. My professional insight into cell image cytometry, proteomics, and biomarker development has led to advances in methods used for lung cancer screening through participation in the Early Detection Research Network (EDRN). In recent years my research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of cancer progression and development of biomarkers to predict metastatic disease, and assess cancer therapies response. Special research and clinical interest I see in development of reliable methodologies for the detection of an active Circulating Tumor Cells (CTC) in bloodstream and assessment of CTC metastatic potential with a major focus on improving cancer patient’ survival.
I have served as PI and Co-PI on a several federal and state-funded RO1, R21 grants and collaborated on a number of research projects relating to early cancer diagnosis. To date I have published numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts and was awarded with 6 USA patents in the early cancer detection field."
